V.V. Rosanov collection
Vasilii V. Rozanov (1856-1919), prominent Russian philosopher, literary critic and publicist, was passionate collector of ancient coins. According to his own words his collection enumerated c. 6000 specimens, including 4500 Greek and 1500 Roman coins.
Pushkin Museum possesses 1497 coins originating from this well-known collection. 1478 of them came from the Museum-Iinstitute of the Classical Orient in Moscow in 1924. 19 more coins were acquired during period of 1925-1944 and there were among them nine gold Roman coins sold by the junior daughter of Vasilii Rozanov, Nadezhda. Fate of the other part of this collection dispersed after October Revolution still remains unclear.
