Cover of the catalogueCatalogue of the Byzantine coins from the collection of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, written by Sergei A. Kovalenko, has been recently printed. It is first Russian publication of the whole collection of such coins stored in one of the most known and popular museums of the country. Catalogue includes detailed descriptions of 1675 coins of Byzantine period since Anastasius I (491–518) till Manuel II (1391–1425). Apart from the issues of the Byzantine Empire coins of the Latin States, Nicaean Empire and Trapezunt Empire are described as well. Format of the catalogue goes back to the “Catalogues of the Byzantine Coins in the Dumbarton Oaks Collection and in the Whittemore Collection”. It allowed registering and describing in detail all varieties of the coin types, including information on preservation and provenance of the coins. All coins are illustrated with colour images. Catalogue is followed by indexes and there is chapter devoted to the history of the Byzantine numismatic collection in the Pushkin Museum.
