Translatio nummorus: Ancient Numismatics in the Renaissance Epoch

Special edition prepared for the exhibition “Translatio nummorum” has been recently published. It is brochure dealing with brief description of the process of turning ancient numismatics into scientific discipline, which started in Quattrocento and was progressively developing during subsequent centuries. This brochure offers review of the main numismatic treatises published by humanists and antiquarians in the 16^th century and devoted to the various aspects of the history of the Ancient and, first of all, Roman coinage. The role ancient coins were playing in the study of Greek and Roman heritage as well as in formation of the humanistic outlook of Renaissance and artistic styles of the epoque has been shown as well.
