Release of the program "History of a Piece of Art. Badge for the completion of the Sungaria section of the Chinese Eastern Railway. 1903"
In the 1980–1990s, the Pushkin Museum acquired about 14 coins and banknotes as a gift. Among the donated pieces was a rare gold badge, which belonged to a participant in the construction of the Sungaria section of the Chinese Eastern Railway. An excellent example of pre-revolutionary jewelry art. The masterpiece of the collection of the Coins and Medals department.
Who donated this badge to our museum? How is it remarkable and who was its owner? What is depicted on the obverse and reverse of this piece? Where and why was it created? Ulyana Volkova, a researcher in the numismatics department of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, tells these and other secrets.
