Statute of this decoration was instituted by an ordinance of the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee on May 5, 1930.
The Order of the Red Star was awarded for the strengthening of the country's defence and for heroism displayed in a deal of national defence.
History
The first Order of the Red Star was given in 1930 to commander V. Blyukher for the battles for the Eastern Chinese Railways in 1929. During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 over 2,860,000 people were awarded with this order. All in all about 4 millions people received the order for the military merit and outstanding feats.
Description
Five-pointed red star with a soldier holding rifle to the right, on the horseshoe-shaped centre with inscription in Russian: "Proletarians of All the Coutries - Unite!/ USSR". Crossed hammer and sickle below.
