Ph.D. Lippert's "Dactyliothec" Philipp Daniel Lippert (1702-1785) owned a very famous dactyliotheca (or collection of carved gems, seals, or their imprints). Ph.D. Lippert was the glazier and collectioner from Dresden. His "Dactyliothec" included plaster casts of cameos and intaglios from European museums and private collections.
About 3500 casts of dactyliotheca are stored in the collection of the Pushkin Museum. The imprints are stored in wood cases and published in the Catalogue, edited in Latin and German: three volumes of "Dactyliothecae Universalis" (Lipsiae, 1755, 1756 and 1762), two volumes of "Dactyliothec" - "Erstes Mythologisches Tausend" and "Zweites Historisches Tausend" (Leipzig, 1767) and Supplement (Leipzig, 1776). |
